Walnut King-Sized Bed

This was my biggest project to date. The bed is made from 100% walnut (other than the oak dowel rods). I started with rough cut. The headboard, footboards, and posts and rails are all secured with floating dowel rods. It is finished with arm-r-seal satin. Knots and holes are all filled with epoxy.

I’m looking to build a king size bed as well.

I like the look with the high clearance underneath the bed. I wonder about having adequate support for the box springs for such a large bed.

This is a crucial part of it for sure. We built a simple slat system with middle supports every 8-12 inches and the bed is sturdy as a rock.

It’s a very nice piece and you did a fine job on it.

Great looking bed, the woodgrain is absolutely beautiful. What finish did you use?

Nice build on the bed, fantastic grain selection with the wood.

Nice looking bed! I’m planning a similar project and was wondering how thick and wide your rails were?

Thanks! I believe the rails were an inch thick and 8 inches wide.
