Hinge boring on a budget

I have been wanting a hinge boring machine for a while but just can’t justify the expense. So the other day I had a bunch of dose to do and I saw my dusty Delta mortiser sitting on the bench next to my cheap underpowered bench drill press. I grabbed a forsner bit and threw it in the mortiser to make sure it has enough clearance for chip removal. It was close enough to give it a try. Next up was some scrap wood to throw a platform and fence together. The back provided mounting to the base and the depth knob made the fixed platform fully adjustable. This worked out better than I could have ever hoped for and I went to bed feeling like a genius.
Hopefully this can help someone else that can’t afford another expensive tool. Sorry I failed to get some action shots, it was a late night.

Great re purpose of the mortiser, thinking out of the box is essential in woodworking.

From your description and pictures I can’t figure out how / what you are achieving. But I am glad it did whatever you wanted it to do.
