Spalted Elm Box for Mom-in-Law

The saga of spalted elm boxes continues. This one is for my mother-in-law. This box is a little larger than the others, about 6×4x3 inches. My lid of choice for this one is a fully removable lid with a knob. I trimmed it out with my precious walnut. The joinery is simple butt joints. I finished it with spray lacquer.

Indeed unique and interesting pull on top. Good idea not too much complicate with hinges here, removable top is just fine.

That spalted elm makes some mighty fine projects. This should endear you with your MIL.

These are gorgeous. I have a ton of spalted elm that I’ve been looking for something to do with. I think I just found some inspiration.

I like the way the walnut trim brings out the browns in the elm. From your comment think there’s going to be some glad folks this holiday.
