This is one of the first projects I have made. I made this toboggan out of 8/4 white ash plain sawn. I ripped the strips on edge which gave me quarter sawn strips. Each strip was wrapped in a damp towel. I then used a teapot with a hose attached to it to pump the steam into the towel for 45min. The working time was around 1min. I made a jig for the radius i needed then clamped each strip. When the next strip was ready I removed the slat and kept a clamp on each board over night. I finished it off with Spar urethane. It was a great Christmas gift for my son.

Thank you

Super job. Pretty ambitious for a first project. Really well done. That has become a family heirloom and I’m sure he’ll love it.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow – wherever you are that is. There looks like a lifetime of fun in your first project!

Great looking toboggan! I had one when I was a kid. Obviously, you don’t live in Florida. ;)

Thank you all for the comments. I will try to take a better photo later. I didn’t realize that it would rotate it on me.

Very nicely done, and especially so for a first project. Awesome Christmas present. I take it it wasn’t kiln dried ash since you got it to bend so well? Now you just need to grab some pine tar and wax and go to work.

The reason your pictures are sideways is that the site doesn’t know how to handle pictures taken in portrait mode. Turn your phone or camera to take a landscape oriented picture.
