This was the second piece I made. My wife wanted a jewelry cabinet or something along those lines. She pointed to a location in the bathroom where she wanted it and that was it. So last year I made this for her christmas gift. I was lining this thing with suede on christmas eve. I had it down to the wire!
I made this out of cherry and planned to use a nice red dye stain for the very first time. Well it blotched the whole side and many other pieces. I’m still new at this but I’m sure there’s something I should have done before applying the dye stain. So I decided to cover up all the stain defects and attempt to give this piece an old fashioned look by applying more red mahogany gel stain than I cared to. My wife loved it though.
I made a removable ring box in the center of the necklace area. Before lining the bottom with suede I recessd to powerful magnets. I also recessed two magnets into the bottom of the box and covered those up as well. So the ring box snaps right into place when set down but is also easily removable.
Each little drawer has 2 small stops in the back so she doesn’t spill anything onto the floor. Why she decided to put a dollar in the drawer I don’t know.
The pulls are an ivory substitute made from Tagua nuts. I ordered those from rockler.
I finished the box with a wipe on poly.

A very nice looking box and the pulls are a perfect contrast. You did well!

That’s a great looking gift for the happy wife. Nice job on the creation and on the finish repairs.

Sweet! I like the drawers and slides. How did you do it?

How did I do the slides? It’s a 1/2 inch dado in the side of the drawers. I glued maple strips to the inside of the case for the sliders.
