My daughter,Rachel, asked if I would make a box like hers,so she could give it to her friend as a wedding gift.
I stayed with basic design, but opted to omit the wild shaping.I didnt want to copy Rachels box exactly, just the colors and style.
I had this deep red, even grained piece of Bloodwood and set that into some figured Maple. Its all topped off with several coats of lacquer.

Rachel said it got alot of attention at the reception.I didnt even know the bride, but I was really doing it to please my daughter…and she was.

Unfortunately, this is the only picture I have.

Wow, another fantastic box Andy, just beautiful!!!
The finish look “inches” thick and just sparkles…..........

I “really” am going to get to making one of your boxes, even though they won’t be as nice…...........

Thanks for sharing

Thanks for all the kind words.
Degoose-I dont doubt for one minute that you could easily make one of these boxes and teach me something in the process. You have a great talent for putting a new spin on things.
@James-I lay on a heavy sealer coat and sand most of that off.I repeat 3-4 more times depending on the wood and the look I am after. In auto body work this is called "blocking" which is filling all the small scratches with primer, prior to painting.(Wenge, for example, would take forever to fill all the pores using this method)
@Gene-I look forward to seeing your version.I know it will be beautiful.
CWdance-We have several lumber suppliers, some with imports and others mainly handle local exotics.

That is just an absolutely gorgeous box – if I had to rank it, I’d place it in the top 5 of all boxes I have ever seen! Beautiful woods and excellent workmanship. Man, you do good work!
