I built my first ever branding iron for a friend a couple of weeks ago and man did it start something! Now it seems everyone wants a branding iron. This one is for another woodworker that wanted it to be smaller then the first one, so he can use it as a makers mark. I wasn’t real happy with the way it turned out but, he seemed to like it. They really aren’t hard to build, just very time consuming. If you have a welder, grinder, hack saw, and a few basic hand tools your in business. I cut some small pieces of plywood in the general shape and then just muscled the metal around it. The thing is mostly made out of 1/8” thick 1/2” wide mild steel. It bends fairly easy. It just takes a lot of time to get the bends right and then weld it together.
The only reason I’m posting it here is because someone here may want to make their own Makers Mark! It really belongs on a metal smith type web site. I just don’t belong to one of those. Good luck and thanks for looking at it.
