I like the look of Bonsai trees and thought it would be a neat idea to make one as a night stand. So I did some research online and found that someone made one. Here is a link for what they did: http://mwhitley.com/bonsai-1/ The top I used zebra wood, for the trunk (middle) I used cedar wood and for the base (bottom) I used spruce wood. To make the top I cut the zebra wood board down into 2 pieces. Then I used my Kreg jig to drill pocket holes on the bottom. Then I screwed and glue the 2 pieces together. For the shape of the top I used Africa’s country off of the map of the world. I traced the shape on the wood the cut it out on the bandsaw. For the trunk I used a 2×6x8 and cut it into 3 pieces. I glued the wood up and cut shape out with a jig saw. I made a tenon at the end of the trunk. For the base I used a 2×12 and cut 2 pieces out and glued them together to make one thick piece of wood. In the center I made a mortise for the tenon to go into. Then I add angles on all 4 sides to give it a cool look. I put the mortise and tenon with glued and add screws at the bottom for extra support. I add supports under the top because I didn’t think it had enough support. Then I stained the trunk, base and gave 3 clear coats to all 3 parts.
