What better way to help unclutter your desk than to make a place to put things? This desk caddy was made from some of my drawer wood . It’s most likely poplar, but I really cannot tell. After kicking around a few ideas, I came up with this concept of ‘nested’ boxes of different heights.. Bringing the concept to life took a little more thought. To slightly disguise the butt joints, I chamfered the ends of the pieces. Wait! No, it’s artistic!
The unit of three joined boxes is simply glued to another piece of drawer wood which has a chamfered top edge. The finish is spray lacquer. I didn’t like the look of it sitting flat on the table, so I added small felt pads to each corner.
One variation I considered for this was a small sliding ‘segment’ which could support a smartphone in an upright position for facetiming or watching videos. It may yet happen as I have two more of these to make.
