Rob,
Oh man, that is a beauty-beauty!
You must tell us about Blue Oak, and “this is a kit…” ??
Looks very stylish and has a indiviidualistic look about it—and built to last two lifetimes.

Pretty much most of the wood I mill and sell is “different”. I read somewhere that the last commercial use of blue oak was by the conquering Spanish that made wine barrels from it . I build kits for all sorts of customers that then finish and market the pieces themselves to augment their own business.

My mother would just love one of these. Maybe one day I’ll resaw one of their hundreds of oaks (they live out in the deep woods in S. Jersey), dry it, and make one for her. In all my research of wood species this past year, I’d heard of blue oak, but I’ve not yet seen anything built of it. Was it one of the fire/bug/mudslide/wind damaged ones you get? Is the deeper color just heartwood, or some kind of attack on the wood?
It looks amazing. Great work!

Thanks for the comments . It is a higher altitude oak around here , a closed cell oak , and extremely hard . The deeper colors are natural and range from purples to blacks to chocolate with little wisps of yellow here and there . Terrific table material – all fire kill .

The Blue Oak ( I have never heard of it either ) is just stunning…....what I wouldn’t give to have a hunk of that!!
The whole table is a work of art, the wood combination, the carving, the style…....everything !!!!
