These pens are a couple of small gifts to my friends “Fred and Trudy” who came to help my wife and I several months ago…see an explanation for FRED who helped (or I helped him) when we built the shed earlier in the summer…
Both pieces of wood come from the pen trade…wood I honor very much because it comes from other Lumberjocks…when Fred came to visit earlier I showed him the nice pieces of wood and he like this piece of curly maple…you can see the really nice grain on it…in person it shines very much…
The other pen is Paduak…I have never used either and I really liked both…

Very nice pens. Really like the curly maple. The Paduk is nice also.
Lucky freinds to recieve these.
Keep it up.

Great pens Matt. Your friends will be proud and happy. You all did a great job on the buildings too.

have you tried not using the brass center ring?
it leaves you open to a lot of design possibilities
she has been doing that an all of her pens lately

Matt,
These turned out beautifully! The grain in the maple is fantastic.
Hope your summer continues to be so enjoyable.

thanks everyone!!!
eddy…I have tried with no brass ring…i do like them…this time I wanted to try a new kit…you can actually see the larger ring next to the curly maple…I wanted to try the nicer kit on the maple pen…but it called for making a tenon on the pen…unfortunately i did not have time to try to make it that way…so the ends and clip are from the “Euro” kit…and the brass ring is from the “cross” kit…if I had more time I would try it…but since this wood was personally picked out by the recipient I did not want to mess it up…
Next time :)
Thanks!!!
