Project Information

I needed a structure for 6-7 feral cats. This came at a time when the evening temps start to hit low 20's, snow & rain a coming, etc. A construction buddy of mine has 3 spare sheets of roof sheathing, which were used in this HASTENED weekend project. This gave me practice and experience with future dog house project aspects, such as roof felt, shingles, exterior grade paint, rain drips, linoleum, flashing, caulk & sealing, and bedding material. I have yet to finish off the roof overhang so used a 2×4 temporarily to hold it up.
It has a 4'x4' interior lined with linoleum, using cedar chips for bedding. Also, a 2nd story (loft?) 16" high and 16" deep. I sealed & caulked all seams. 2 entry ways (probably too small..might have to enlarge). The tile roof is in the direction of prevailing winds where snow & rain will come from. I have some spare 4" Rmax insulation I will probably add to the removable roof as well (and probably put gate hinges in for the roof as well).

Bless you for thinking about the strays. We care for and feed about 20 odd feral's plus our own that are in an enclosed area. I had fun building a condo for the feral's a couple years ago. About time to doing a rebuild.
