Curly maple chest for my mother for Christmas hopefully she will be surprised. I really stressed on how to do the top but left it plain with a Purple Heart tab to open. The inside has Purple Heart with a ring tray area. Dimensions are 6.5” wide by 10” in length the last picture is prior to adding for color.

The removable tray is bocote wood with yellow heart bottom that really shows the grain. Used quadrant hinges my first time installing which was a challenge but wanted that style.

The finish was done with 4 sandings of golden transtint and then fine sanded with 800 for the application of arm r seal gloss. Learned to apply first coat very then then each coat was fine sanded to final.

A few areas I which I could have improved on but the curly finish I am pleased with. The finish looks much better than the pictures.
