Playing around with Dustin Penner’s design. I changed the size and curves a little. Made from 3/4” birch ply and recycled drawer bottoms (1/4” mahogany ply). I hope to make more and play around with curve shapes and sizes.

I wonder how it would do if the phone was toward the front edge with the speaker facing the back. With a thin back made out of hard wood to serve as a soundboard like in musical instrument.

I turned the phone around at one point so the speaker was facing the camera and it lost volume, but I edited that part out of the final cut. Basically it demonstrates that these actually increase volume and are not just focusing sound. In the video description I link to a video by Applied Science that explains exactly how horns work, it’s interesting.

I don’t mind at all, it’s not even my design. I borrowed it from a youtube channel, Dustin Penner. I did design a variation with a folded horn that is louder, there are details about it here:
