I built this small deck for my Mom with my brother. I designed it to be 11/5, nice easy stairs to maneuver and the handrails are easy to grab. The previous stairs were rather steep and had no landing in front of the door.

Very nice job Bob, I’m sure Mom will enjoy the new stairs and sitting area. The lighting adds a nice touch.

Hi Mom!!
Lovely. The stairs are great.

When my Mom had her deck built last year we struggled with her to get a ramp put on it (Her hurt her pride to have a ramp – she’s not old!! She’ll be 80 this year… now that she has it, and everyone uses it .. she loves it as well.

That’s an excellent idea with the lower pitch on the stairs plus more tread. I would not have thought of it but will remember it now.
I had to go back an take another look . You can hardly notice it.
I may have to change the stairs to our basement before we have an accident. they are too steep for carring stuff down in particular.

I wish I had the time to help out some of her friends. They all love the stairs and live in the same community. I’ve given some the plans so they could have a builder do the job but many are on fixed incomes and can’t afford it.

Way to go Bob!!! You are definitely racking up good points with mom. And doing it with your brother has got to count 2x.

You only get one Mom in life. It is good to do all you can for her. Nice stairs. She is very proud.
