This is a new Murphy Bed and desk concept. There is no need to clear off the desk. The desk rotates around when the bed is opened and stores under the bed. I call it the Cantilever Desk Murphy Bed. I built it in November 2015.

DIY
I am also going to start building this as a DIY kit. This is a new spring system that has the fame supplied. I am thinking that the building process is about 1/2 the time on this once compared to my Piston system, where you build all the inner frame yourself. Because of how quick it goes together, I thought many would like that option.

Wow, Chris! You really have done a wonderful job on this. It’s a great design and nicely done.

Interested on how the spring system works. I had made one using hardware springs and basic lumber. Low cost and posted it last year. Very nice, when I get time will look through your site and pictures, thanks

Brian, the pictures in the DIY section are similar to what I used. Look at the last picture of it open.

Chris,

I purchased the Rockler Deluxe Murphy Bed Plans (and associates kits/hardware) this past year, but due to some other needs, I have pushed this project off until next summer.

Do you know if your modifications will work with this? You mentioned a DIY kit. Is this something that would work with the Rockler kit? It’d be nice to have this work area as the bed will be up likely 360 days a year LOL.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, to do that desk, I used a totally different system. If you are asking if the desk will work with the Rockler, it will not. The Deluxe from Rocker has only 7” of clearance under the bed, the desk needs more.

Chris,

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I may be interested in your DIY version if your company ends up going that route.

Thanks,

Mark
