Patriot Cigar (recovered...)

I thought I would try my hand at one of the patriot pen kits. The upper barrel assembly is not as easy as the instructions make it out to be. Needless to say, despite using soapy water (per the instructions) and taking my time, about half of the little stars would not fit. I spent over an hour trying to tweak each opening. When I went to try to seat the stars better, the upper barrel cracked in a couple of places. A few choice words later, I calmed down and ordered a blue dyed buckeye burl blank and used it for the upper barrel. I think it came out OK but sure would have liked to have all those stars. Mechanism is an Ultra Cigar.

PSI has a great little video about how to set these up. In case you haven’t see it already. I think you have a good save with the Buckeye. I’ve thought about doing one of these.

Nice pen. What would you charge to make 2 of them for a fellow LJ?

I love this pen! I think I actually like your version more than the actual patriotic pen kit. I thought about making one of these but they are a bit pricey for me. Anyways, great job!

Thats an expensive kit to have it blow up on you, I think you did a nice job recovering, actually its cool that its different from the original design of the patriot pen. well done

Very nice pen. Great recovery. Have seen the originals and I think I like the Blue buckeye better.

Keep it up.

NICE! I have been wanting to try a laser cut pen kit… not sure now!! I like how your pen turned out.

Have your say...
