Well those of you who have been following our situation know that we moved into a new environment, and it’s been several months since I’ve had a chance to do any real woodworking. So last week, I just couldn’t stand it anymore, I had to do some woodworking. My shop is “arranged” in the barn, but there are still no walls. So anyway, what you are looking at is a walnut box featuring hand cut dovetails and a hand made invisible hinge. Thanks for looking!

Looks great Jerry. The dovetails and hand made invisible hinge look flawless. I’ve wanting to try both and this might just be the inspiration I needed. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Drew, I greatly appreciate it. I’m glad I can be an inspiration :-)

Drawing first blood Jerry? Saw that in the email and thought, crap here he goes again.

Glad you didn’t and really glad to see the project you’ve posted. Nice dovetail and hinge work as always. Very nicely done.

Just starting to play with dovetails (keller jig) and really like the way they’ve come out.

Stay out of harms way.

Nice box Jerry. Good match up on the grain in the hinge. Say, did you ever decide if this idea was “workable” ????

HA Haaaa! Sorry for the false alarm, guess I should have thought that title through a little better. Thanks for the compliments, as always, very appreciated.

You know, you nailed it. I know Rob Cosman can do a three minute dovetail, but not mere mortals like me, patience is the only thing separating me from good dovetails and major gaposis.

Good to see you ‘back in the saddle’.
Did you have a specific purpose for that beautiful walnut box or was it just a work of love?
Hope to see more of your work soon.

Hey hey, Jack, good to hear from you. Don’t exactly know what it’s intended use is.. I just needed a “woodworking fix”, and I’d been making box joints with the iBox for so long, I just really felt like I needed to get back to basics and revisit my hand tool skills. As for more work, I currently have two more humidors almost finished.

Hey Joe, thanks for your generous compliments. To answer your question, I’m still thinkin’ about that hinge in the picture…
