Here is a fun Xmas project. About 30 years ago I used to make these around Xmas time to make a little extra money to help pay for Xmas. My son recently said he would like to have a set, so I made a set for all my kids and my two granddaughters. These are easy to make and lots of fun. I don’t spend a lot of time on the finishing because kids usually end up playing with them. As you can see, they break down for easy storage.

Fun!
How did you get the wood burned lookish results? And if it is wood burned how did you finish or seal it?
These will be around a long time and most likely be an heirloom!
Thanks for sharing!~Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

I just burn the wood with a torch then lightly spray with a quick drying finish. Typically, I use a clear lacquer because it is fairly inexpensive and dries quickly. Like I said in my post I don’t really spend much time on the finish because kids usually end up playing with them.

Thanks for clarifying. How did you get a nice straight line for the hoofs? Did you use a piece of tin or metal to block over flames?
I like the look a lot! I might give it a try on the stockings instead of the typical red and green. It gives it a good rustic country look!
THANKS! ~Suzanne

I just use the steel blade on a combination square.
