Red Hot Fire Engine painted blue….

A friend from Gymnastics who has been helping me with video editing and selection of a new laptop asked if I would make a blue fire engine in timber for his nephew as a Christmas gift.

Also my friend offered to pay me for the wooden toy but after all the assistance he’d given me, it was my pleasure to make the fire engine for him, though the blue has mucked me up somewhat.

The plan is from an old 1991 magazine.

The toy is about 14” long x 5” wide using a number of different Aussie hardwoods but painted.
The wheels are merbau with 5/16”dia through axles.

Took a little more time and effort that first thought looking at the plans and of course I’ve personalized it making it strong enough to be little boy proof.

And so you can’t argue with a 3year old on colours, so blue was it, 2 coats with 3 clear gloss on top!!!

YES “The Customer Is Always Right”!!!
Though I did rebel by clear coating the wheels & lights….

There is a special type of enjoyment in making toys!

Did you give it “A-GO!”? just to see.

That is the coolest damn truck!!!

Yes, the customer is always right – even when they are wrong.

I’m glad you took pics before you painted it, because that is the truck that we all like.

I can’t believe how satisfying making kids toys can be. I just never thought about it. They are never going to impress any fellow woodworker when it comes to the wow factor, but seeing a kid play with a toy you made just for them is the best feeling ever.
