This was one of the tables I received from my Grandparents estate. I can remember it from their house and eventually their CCRC condo, which we had to clean out when Grandpa went into the full assisted living ward. I actually finished this table about two months ago after it sat in my shop for almost three years… amazing how fast time can go by.
My father thinks it was part of a 1945 purchase and I found a stamp in the drawer for Brandt furniture of Hagerstown MD which is ironically not too far from me now. The top was largely shot with all of the years of wear and not so careful use, lots of water staining and scratches, so it was a full strip job. Used Citrus strip to strip the top being careful of the edges, sanded and then re-stained with GF black cherry. The base was mostly in good condition except for damage from a parakeet that essentially rounded over all the top edges of the legs, Cleaned up the chew marks and sanded in a smother round over then cleaned the base with denatured alcohol and applied stain to match where needed. Entire table got spray finished with poly and the buffed with #0000 before a final paste wax, it’s not as glossy as it was when Grandma bought it but it looks good in our living room
