This table is made from one 1”X12”X6’ long clear pine board. It was my entry into a pine board challenge put on by my local woodworking club. My original design was for a four legged table but after cutting out all the legs and leaving enough wood for the top I changed the design and decided to make it three legged table for no other reason than something different. The three stretchers are attached to the legs and the hub with sliding dovetails and the top is attached with screws and then a plug to hide the screw head. I finished the table with several coats of Cherry stain and polyurethane.
This kind of project is a good design exercise with the limitations of quantity and type of wood that can be used. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Ken,
I really liked the design just from the thumbnail on the home page when I logged on today. And once I read the story to go along with it, I enjoy it even more. Great job!
I am just beginning woodworking and recently purchased a good bandsaw. This type of design is something that I could do with my limited tool selection. Thanks for the inspiration!

PKP & James thanks for the kind words.
James, yes this kind of project is good for a band saw. I myself don’t have a band saw so all the curves I had to do with my scroll saw to rough cut the shape then made a pattern of the leg and use a flush cutting bit in my router. Then some hand sanding. I found the most challenging aspect of this project is the designing as we could only use the one board and try to use as much of it as possible.

Nice work, the three leg design fits the top better than four would. It should impress the judges.

What a well thought out piece! It flows from top to bottom with perfect proportions and all out of something with sqare corners. Great design!

I’m amazed you made a piece of pine look like an expensive piece of furniture. Beautiful design and build. Love the finish. Great.

Fantastic job. I love it! Can’t believe it came out of one board.

I really like this. I agree with the others that it flows well; the three legs, their shape, and the table top shape all looks really good to me. I showed it to my wife, however and she didn’t like it as much as I did so I guess we’ll be stuck with square tables for our own house forever.

Very nice design but you stole my name!! Just joking. Check out my guitar pick coffee table I posted a few months ago http://lumberjocks.com/projects/16248. I have just completed two similar side tables that I am going to picture and post in a few days.
I really like the legs on your table. I am not sure I could do joinery like that. Would it be possible for you to post a picture of the underside of the table and a close up of the sliding dovetail joinery?
Thx, Lloyd

I really like that table Ken. I was looking for something 3 legged that I could use out in our gazebo as the flagstone floor is a little uneven. I might just ‘borrow’ some of your design :-)
Nice job.

Thanks Lloyd for the kind words. I really like your tables as well. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you but we have been away for a while. I unfortunately don’t have a photo of the underside of the table and it is now in its new home but I have posted a photo of the “hub” and the sliding dovetails as I was shaping them. The top is attached to the legs using screws then pine plugs to hide the screw head.
Ken.
