One of my first real woodworking projects of late that has got me motivated to do more. I built this on the fly and shooting from the hip for a well respected member of my Squadron who was moving onto bigger and better things. I built it because he deserved something more than just bought off the shelf, but as I built it, I couldn’t help but truly enjoy the whole process of design, build, and finnish. Once I was done, I was proud of the end result, but disappointed that it was done before I knew it even started…
What makes it just a little more special is the that its fully reversible, front to back, and can be hung on the wall, displayed on a desk/table, or a shelf. It also has a built-in challenge coin rack along the bottom and a hidden concealment area with plucker-foam behind the stars which are spent shell casings from the same caliber has his duty weapon. I had a spare piece of wood after completing the box, so I made a simple but efficient matching challenge coin holder. These pictures were taken before I went back and touched up the paint in a few areas. Rough size is 15”x24”.
I plan to expand on this project in the future with stains vs paint. But, I will say the flat paint for some reason looked really nice on it. Looking forward to tapping into everyones collective knowledge here. THANKS!
