I’m very happy to finally add this to the projects page. It seems like its been a blog forever. This is the 1st piece that I’ve made that could possibly be construed as fine furniture. I’m not sure it actually makes it, but I’m real happy with how she came out. Pretty comfortable too.

Bob, it’s a real beaut! The dog will love it – he may even let you sit in it for a while.

I agree with Max – this is fine furniture at its best. And wow - that finish!

It’s great to to see a project from the drawing board through to the finished project.

Beautiful! Now on with the ottoman, plus your side table.

She only has to be told once. Ridiculously smart dog and very well behaved. She wants nothing more in the world than to please me. And she actually does have her own chairs…both indoors and out.

It’s tough to see her getting old. I’ve had many dogs and she is by far the best I’ve ever had. She’s gonna be busy after tonight. Two new kittens coming home and she loves cats….actually prefers them to other dogs. I’m a little concerned about the kittens and my chair though.

She was semi-famous when she was younger. Entertained lots of local kids, was on a Japanese TV show, and was a spokesdog for a UK website that sells dog coats. (The owner asked if he could send us a coat and have us take videos of her playing soccer).

a special dog indeed!

Our neighbour’s dog has semi-adopted us and often sleeps at our door all night protecting us from creatures of the night. Although she loves to cool off in our pool (creating havoc) she is pretty good at directions. Rick will say “go lay down under the tree” and she heads to the tree to lay down.
We didn’t learn her name for over a year and just called her “Bear”—she’s that big and all fur.

I am not a dog person but I love Gabby (her real name). She is big; she is smelly and she is a matted furry mess. But I love her anyway.

Beautiful chair. There’s only one problem…It’s going to be hard to get you out of it and back to the shop. LOL! ;^)

I put this in Martin’s blog today, but I think it’s more appropriate here.

We had an old dog, that never laid on our furniture when we were home, but as soon as we left the house, that’s the first thing he’d do.

We caught him at it after he became deaf. LOL

lol my son in law said that their cats didn’t go on furniture. It’s amazing how much cat fur is on the furniture without them sleeping on it..

Hi Bob;
—-all I can say is that you have in-deed created a place in wood-working space were you can sit back and relax in time.

What a wonder-full chair you have made, a great blog story to go along with it and then that finish is one very fine finish. And after all that, you have a great dog there keeping watch over your chair, while both chair and dog are residing against a backdrop of green-fully green.

Thank you for taking the time to share this with us!
GODSPEED,
Frank

Can you tell I’m passionate about my dog? She’s been one of my best friends for years.

Hehe….Samba is almost deaf now Dick. We do catch her sleeping in her chair all the time. It was an old chair of mine that we were going to get rid of. She seemed to sense that it was now OK for her to use it and then we couldn’t get rid of it. She also commandeered a cushioned lawn chair I bought for my wife and now that she is older spends hours viewing her domain from the vantage point of our deck.

She has been trained to stay within our yard (and our next door neighbors yard) so she spends a lot of time outdoors. I told our next door neighbors son when he was about 5 that he could consider her his dog too. She usually waits for the schoolbus with him in the morning and then waits for the bus to return in the afternoon. She used to play soccer with him and his friends until she was tired out, come home and jump in her pool and then take a nap on her lounge chair. Now she just watches most of the time.

Its amazing the relationship that man has developed with dogs. I don’t think I would feel complete without having a dog of my own.

Hi Piper,

Cute pup. What kind of dog is he? Tough to tell form the picture.

I put on 3 coats of Watco natural working through the grits to 220 on the last one and then did a 4th coat on the arms (the finish picture) and sanded to 400. Then I did two coats of a 2lb cut of Zinsser Bulls Eye Shellac (natural) sanding at 400 and 600. Then the arms got two coats of Minwax Poly and steel wooled at 000. Lots of sanding but it needed it. I messed up big time with my glue. Biggest lesson learned on this one is clean up your glue.
