This piece of curly spotted gum flooring was given to me by a bridge player.
I put it with 2 stripes of curly redgum, that were from a weatherboard that I
scavenged last February. Also added pieces of straight-grain spotted-gum
and redgum, and some huon pine and some rock maple that were lying around.
The maple was exactly flatsawn, so the top & side of the handle show the
completely different grain patterns. It can be a lesson for those who don’t already
know this stuff.

As a small box—22×13 cm—a lift-lid was appropriate, and I haven’t done
many handles, but think I will take it up. New way to be creative.

I like the colorful lid. The handle is terrific as well. The bottom – I’m not sure if I like the thickness – seems to draw my eye away from the amazing top. That’s just an opinion, of course, different people have a different “eye” for these things.

Thanks for sharing.
