Book-Magazine Case

Project by Joe Lyddon posted 115 days ago 316 views 0 times favorited 6 comments Add to Favorites Watch

My father-in-law, Dean H. Prewitt (deceased) of Joshua Tree, CA, designed and made a large built-in unit like this. This was back in the late 70’s. I always really liked it because Magazines could also be displayed as well as Books. I finally reverse engineered it, drew plans, added a face frame which included the shelves (he left shelf edges open).

I changed the overall dimensions to fit a small entertainment center I’ve been working on, in the design stage.

I plan on having two of these Book-Mag cases… one on each side of the entertainment console (still in design stage). The second case is in process… just like this one…

Dimensions: 7’5” x 2’ x 1’
Top, bottom, sides, & shelves are 3/4 cab. grade Birch ply.
Back is 1/4” Poplar ply.
Face Frame is 3/4 Poplar.

Dyed with Trans-Tint, Golden Brown (closest match to Dad’s), and topped with Shellac.

Plaque was made by Leo D. Voisine of E. Freetown, MA

I think he did a great job at a very reasonable price!
Take a look at his website… Contact him… You will be surprised! ... and HAPPY!

Hope you like it…

I would like any criticisms you may have.

Thank you!

I also like the idea for the magizines. Super job and a nice tribute to your father-in-law.
