I was on my way home one day and saw a huge stack of pallets, i am new to wood working and I live near Austin TX. Austin is all about being green so I started a business on the side working with you guessed it pallets. So back to the story I drove over to the huge pile of pallets and a guy was over there, i went to introduce myself and asked him if I could have the pallets…of course he wanted me to take all of them but there is no way i had the room or the desire to load all those pallets. He let me take what I could and he told me that the cabinet shop was going to have a sale in a few weeks to sale off the scrap.
My father and i came back a few weeks later and there were a few guys walking around and I asked him what was for sale…his answer “EVERYTHING IN HERE, WE HAVE TO BE OUT BY TOMORROW” I drove to the bank as fast as i could with drew every bit of money i could…my wife wasn’t seeing the gold mine I had just left from.
I return with my $60 and was able to get a bosch router and router table…two sets of florescent lights with four bulbs in each…and tons of wood. Ended up with five…thats 5 truck loads of stuff.
Also all the “cutting board” the top of my work bench we were able to bring 15’ X 4’ home with us. The new bench in the middle of my shop, the top came from the cabinet shop…it is 13 2X6’s glued up and trimmed out like no other.

Looks like you are having to store that outside. If you need someone in Texas to help take some of that stuff off your hands…
Seriously though, nice score. I’ve been mostly milling storm fall timber from Ike, pretty much what fits on my band saw… Oh and recycling old Waterbed frames, and other misc curbside lumber sources. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Keep up the good work, especially with the recycling bit… Even if you don’t want to be green, it will save you a mess of the other kind of green.

Yep its outside my garage/shop just isn’t big enough but I do have it covered with two of the biggest tarps i have ever seen…cool thing is when you have an idea to build something and then you go out to the back yard and go shopping. I have mahogany trim, rounded oak…crown molding you wouldn’t believe…1” thick planks of red, white oak…poplar out the waazuu. We hit the lotto for wood working. I graduated from pallets to fine woodworking over night…now what to cut…

I know I should be happy for you, but man am I jealous too. If we were there at the same time, it would have been arace to see who could load up vehicles with stuff the fastest.
on a side note, is that an insulated garage door? If so, did you do it yourself? I desperately need to get my garage door insulated but dont’ want to spend a fortune.

Youre very lucky man.
Your story reminds me my story when I was first involved in woodworking. I approched the owner of a small forwarding company, told him that I wanted to buy one or two of the shippng pallets. I was turned down. In the end, I saw those pallets got rotten.
Maybe I was not in the right place at the right time with the right person.

Nothing i can say but yes I was in the right place at the right time and made out like a bandit. Keep your eyes open and watch Craigslist.
Now I know where all the caninet shops are in my area and I will start going by there on a regular basis to see if they have any scrap and maybe to if i need something done and cant get it done in my shop its always good to know I have a friend in the cabinet business.
Everyone seems very nice here ty for all the comments and look forward to showing off the goods.

Nice score, man!
I second the question about the garage door insulation. Does it help with the noise level? I just moved into a more “upscale” neighborhood, and would like to keep peace w/ my new neighbors (or at least keep the HOA off my butt!)

The garage insulation was only $60 from Loews and the best it does is reflect the heat in the winter it does reduce the noise but it is helpful. In Texas when it’s 107 it will be 100 in the shop. I did have an AC unit under the door sealed off but he hoa said no. So I bought a self contained unit and it sucked took it back and ran a duct from my ac From the house into the shop. Now I Need to do another one. Then it’s about 80.
