Backgammon and chess board with all the pieces and storage box made from walnut, fiddle back maple, maple burl veneers and solid maple and walnut. High gloss finish on the playing surfaces. The board is about 24 inches square and my own design. Chess men are also my own design and the major pieces have 2.5 oz of lead hidden in the base and the pawns have 1.5 oz of lead hidden in the base. This gives them a nice feel and heft. They also have copper leaf for detailing and a gloss finish. The walnut solid and veneer came from a tree that was in my yard. I air dried the lumber for 10 years then made my own veneer and boards from it. I have between 150 and 200 hours in this project. This was all made as a gift.

At this point I will have to make the obligatory me me me comment… You made this as a gift!! It would have to be a gift for myself I think. The finish is fantastic and the whole project is very well done. I’m pretty sure I’d have a hard time parting with this one!!

I think I’d have a hard time parting with this also, unless the person I gave it to I was planning on marrying. LOL.
