This is an extra long handle made for a ladies hand. The user requested that the handle have a long arch to place her palm on, as she tried several of my canes and decided that the arch of the Osage Orange cane #052 http://lumberjocks.com/projects/16371 along with the finger catch in some of my other cane styles worked for her. The woods used in the Madrone Burl Cane #046 http://lumberjocks.com/projects/16104 were to her liking, as she liked the organic pattern of the Madrone Burl as it has some voids and unusual pattern, but she did not like the Pink Ivory as much as the Manzanita for the collar.
The cane needed to be substantial in length but not too thick for her medium size hand and it could not be too heavy, as some of the harder woods can have some weight to them, especially in the thicker size shafts that I make. We decided on Figured Cherry for the shaft as it is strong enough for her needs and still lightweight.
She was delighted with the outcome and should be able to enjoy her new custom cane for many years to come. It’s always a pleasure to create something that brings someone joy, even if it’s only a walking aid.
