I built a set of free standing cabinets for my mud room (the hall to the garage.)The project was an evolution of style and construction for me. Some of the features that I incorporated included:
- a table style to enable us to take the cabinets with us
- instead of carrying the apron around the front I used that for a drawer
- the drawers besides being frameless also used a structural face to maximize internal space
Progression of the Design
At first I was trying for a train station ticket counter look.
Then I was going for stack of smaller cabinets
I finally settled for something more symmetrical but that had to adjust to the available space and to give room for the dog crate under the one cabinet. (Notice I started to label the cabinets for planning and building.)
Some additional details and adding measurements
I found I could use Excel to figure out the stack up to with pictures inserted from my hand drawings
Some additional planning and construction notes with the parts starting to be number.
The hardest parts….
I had some real tough times getting squareness for the different parts. The base cabinet and drawer alignment was killer.
The journey was enjoyable!
