This is the last of my African wood. This one and my elephant both came out of a stack of fire wood I found in Malawi Africa. I fell in love with this piece of wood because of the wild color blotches it has. I wanted to make something with it…and the wife asked for a “Fruit” bowl to put on the table. Like the others…since the wood came from Africa…I stayed with a African theme. There is a Elephant looking at you from the bottom of the bowl…and when you flip it over…I carved the elephants back side or butt on the bottom…..around the bowl there is a lion, water buffalo, rhino and a leopard.
I thought it would be neat to carve all the way through…so things would stand out more…and while I like the way it turned out…it is a pain to dust according to my wife, lol.

Excellent work, what a beauty. She’s complaining about the dusting of it?????? Tell her to take it to the shop and use the air compressor on it. I bet she loves it though, I would.

Dust? Just keep it full of fruit… won’t see the dust.
Spectacular. I’ve seen plenty of commercially made African wood carvings… none appealed to me. This is the great exception. Love it. But then the fruit would keep falling out because you’d always be wanting to show the back side… very clever… and your animals all seem to have attitude—a subtle pride about them…

Fron a guy that has dust as his name. He’s telling you not to worry about it.
Don that is a great carving. The story that goes with it makes it even more beautiful.
