How is the headboard panel joined to the headboard frame?

Jersey,
It is joined with floating tenons. I think 5 on each side. I glued middle ones and left periferal to move to allow for panel expansion and contraction.

What is the mattress support? Plywood?

That’s a good looking headboard.
