Coffee Table

This was my first project, both to meet a need (we had no coffee table) and to cut my woodworking teeth on something relatively easy. I made a lot of mistakes on this project (like trying to sand it after construction…) and learned a lot because of those mistakes. Still, it’s functional, looks halfway decent, and isn’t “noticed” by guests as a home-made, poor-quality piece, despite being made out of “Lowe’s wood.” Those are un-treated 2×4s and 4×4s, with real hard-wood for the drawer fronts. I cut a bevel into the drawers for opening instead of attaching a handle, because the table sits next to the sofa and I didn’t want to be bumping my knees on a drawer handle. Someday when I have more money I would like to re-top this table with hard-wood; maybe mahogany or walnut.
