That’s really a great mantle, Doc. Did you have any trouble scribing it to the wall? How about some construction comments. I really like the look of it, and you’re right, the paint gives it a subtlety that blends with the wall and molding in the room.

The marble is black Italian marble with green “marbling”. There 4 pieces total and cost more than the rest of the entire project. (my wife’s taste) Attached to the wall using simple liquid nails The vertical columns are made with simple 4 quarter poplar and overlay and finish nailed to a 2×6 which is nailed directly to the wall studs. The top piece is simply stacked molding, some factory some custom from the router table and screwed to the wall and legs before the top plate was attched using finish nails. wood putty to cover the nail heads.

Nice work and design.
The various relief elevations and plinth blocks are appropriate and classy.
Overall proportions look nice.
