Here is a prototype of a Christmas gift. It will combine a spinning top with a angel ornament. The top is made from a glue up of cherry, maple, and walnut. Got this idea from Sam Angelo YouTube video. The point has a ball bearing glued into a recess drilled in the point of the top which makes the top spin very smoothly and for a long time. This is not my idea but from another’s YouTube video. The angel body is from a scrap of orangish wood and the wings are made of the sap wood from a flowering crab. There is a small magnet embedded in the base of the angel body (second photo) to hold the top in place when used as an ornament. I don’t like the orange color of the body. Think I’ll use cherry as I make others. I would love to hear your suggestions for improving this project. I was going to make 5-6 for Christmas, but after wife saw it my order has doubled.
