Kingwood chess board

Project by BobE7 posted 867 days ago 250 views 0 times favorited 6 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I made this board from some pieces of wood that were laying around my office at work for some time. I think it is Brazilian Kingwood, though I’m not sure. The squares are maple and walnut. I didn’t turn the pieces. Maybe someday I will.

Thanks for looking.

Why would you have Kingwood lying around the office. You work in the lumber business?

Thanks for the compliments.

Yes, I work in the lumber business, as a lumber estimator for residential construction, but we have never worked with this type of wood. No one knows where it came from, so I took it home.

I also got about 20 board feet of an Australian redwood, can’t think of the name of it, but it is rare we get that type of wood here. It’s mostly pine, with a little red oak and maple. But that is about it.

Bob, I’m about an hour east of you over between Lansing and Owosso, so if you come across any more of that old cruddy wood nobody wants let me know, I’ll be right over. Nice chess board by the way. jockmike
