Some Special Pens (with a special purpose)

July 23/09

Pen Style: Sierra

Pen 1
Wood: Texas Mesquite

This wood is very special as it was sent to me from Karson. But that’s not the end of the “specialness”. Karson had received the wood from BlueStingrayBoots. So this wood has gone through the hands of three LumberJocks and been in two countries!

Pen 2
Wood: Bloodwood

The Purpose
With the mesquite having traveled across North America and passed between the hands of three different LumberJocks I thought that its final destination should be into the hands of our founder Martin.

Since Martin and Alenka’s first anniversary is fast approaching I decided to make a set of “his and her” pens. Last week I sent them across the big pond to Slovakia. (and they arrived yesterday.)

Happy Anniversary to Martin and Alenka.
Thank you very much to Karson and to BlueStingrayBoots

Very nicely done and a most appropriate gift; LumberJock pens for the creator of LumberJocks. Cool.

However, it is a little disappointing to see that you’re still in denial about your addiction.

Its really apparent how much you have progressed from your first turnings. Its ok to be addicted since it has no health implications, BUT, denial can be the warning of ….oh well. more turning is the best antidote

There has certainly been a lot of posting about addiction!
First it was the LumberJocks Forum.
Then it was tool addiction.
Now it’s pen turning.
Are we to be pitied, treated, encouraged or ignored? (;-0)

Carry on, kids.

Deb, that is a wonderful gesture on your part. And those are a couple of beautiful pens. Of course you are not addicted to turning but I can see that you will “invent” any excuse to spend some time on the lathe!! :)

It looks like you are having fun and enjoying yourself. Keep the pens coming. We are enjoying these posts as much as you are. Now that you have the pens down pretty well how about a vase?

thank you everyone.

“inventing excuses” . lol oh dear .. now that would be a sign of an addiction… but really.. honestly… I didn’t wake up thinking about making a pen… I didn’t force myself to do housework first.. honest…

Deb, my grandson Logan here says he just loves your pens and so do I. You’re becomming quite efficient on that Lathe. Move over Trifern here she comes. I’d really like to see you make a little bowl or have you done that already? Probably have, things move so fast on here anymore it’s hard to keep up. I see the pens went a great cause. Happy Anniversary Martin. m

thanks Mike.
No bowls yet, although I do want to make a platter soon. Too many things on the go right now.

And I know what you mean about things going fast—so easy to miss stuff or just run out of time!

Oh… and thanks Logan :)

Very nice pens with a great story. Martin deserves a big hand for all he does.

MsDebbieP, You are allways keeping the rest of us on our toes. Thank you for thinking of others.

Fantastic job on these pens.

Keep it up.

Beautiful pens and such a thoughtful gift! Now they can write each other Love Notes and hide them around the house!

I guess I should say something here ;) so a special big public THANK YOU goes to Debbie! Both pens look even better in reality than on the photos above. Debbie already is The Master Craftsman – or should I say Cratfsmiss?

We were thinking about using the pens in our jobs but love notes sound like a better idea. Now I just need to google that ‘love note’ ooops
