This is my first time posting and I wanted to show (off!) my newest cutting board that I designed and made for an upcoming wedding present. I am newish to woodworking, slowly building up my shop equipment (actually currently building a new house that will contain a future shop as well). Last Christmas I decided to try my hand at making some end grain cutting boards for presents. I made several of the basic pattern that is shown everywhere and eventually went beyond the basic and made some weave patterns and a few others. But I wanted to make something special for the upcoming wedding and a Celtic knot was fitting for the couple to be. I researched and looked around the internet for one that I could follow but there really weren’t any out there that were end grain. This forced me to design my own. I used CBDesigner to get the look and feel that I wanted but there were some problems that I needed to address. In particular the board design was for a large board 19.5” x 19.5” x 2”; I don’t have a thickness planer that can handle 19.5” or a drum sander which meant I had to improvise. In any case here is the final product made of Cherry, Purpleheart and Hard Maple. I am happy with the way it turned out and I hope it gets plenty of use!
