I just finished this last night and I think it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. It is the first woodspirit that I have painted and I like the way it has more definition than the ones I have carved only. I mounted it on an old mirror I had sitting around just for something different. The only painted parts are his hair, beard, eyebrows, eyes, and just a touch or reddish pink to his cheeks and tip of his nose. He is sealed like all my cottonwood bark carvings with clear shoe polish, then buffed with a shoe brush. The only tools I used were a knife, 1 large, 1 very small v-tool, and a 1/2 inch gouge.
He is carved out of a piece of Cottonwood Bark that my wife and our 16 year old and I collected here in Minnesota a month or so ago while out in the woods searching for carving wood. It is hard to find good Cottonwood Bark here in Minnesota when your used to using the much thicker bark from out west, but it carves just fine you just have to make smaller carvings.
I hope you all like it.

Man if I woke up and saw that in the mirror I’d have a heart attack. Nice carving though.
