This project matches the other items created with a simple, minimalist (read: Ikea) look. It began with the Simple Desk, Drawers and now the Table. This is a very small table, to be used next to the bed for the alarm clock. A couple extra shelves were added which can hold remotes, a book or any other smaller objects.

Supplies needed for the project are:

  • Pine (1”x6”x6’) – Make sure it’s clear of any knots or defects
  • Quarter sheet of 1/2” MDF
  • Wood glue and brads
  • Wood putty
  • Polyurethane

This is a quick project to build, the most time spent on the finishing portion. Begin by cutting all the pine pieces to size, 1” wide by 3/4” thick. A light sanding is required to knock off any of the fuzz left by the saw blade.

Assembly is next, starting with the top and working down. Brads are used as a quick way to assemble, glue alone could be used with clamps, but it would have taken longer.

With the basic assembly competed, the MDF can be cut to size for the top and two lower shelves. The top is basically a square, the two lower shelves the same, but with notches cut out to fit around the legs. All three pieces were trimmed with pine.

After a few hours of drying time, the holes were filled with wood putty, a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper and a few coats of poly to finish it up.

Thanks for looking!

Straightforward design and construction, practical and useful—a real winner!

Thanks Shuja!

Joe, I appreciate your support as always!

John, thanks, my son started using before I could put the poly on it, so it is very practical!
