I finally finished my spoon. I don’t think I can make it better but it could get a lot worse.(LOL) My friend Jimthecarver seemed to be having so much fun so I thought I’d take a stab at it. Well it was a learning experience. I learned a lot of lessons the most important being: don’t carve any more spoons. My hats off to ya Jim it’s not as easy as it looks. The wood is from an old pallet, I think its ash.(lots of jokes there) Finished with linseed oil and poly.

It is a nice spoon. I took a carving course from one of the best love spoon carvers around, David Western, and it was hard but an absolute blast… that reminds me, I should finish that spoon I started and put it up under projects.
Don’t give up on it now. Try using a “friendlier” wood like basswood or pine… ash is mighty hard to be doing this with. Just my two cents worth…

Beautiful spoon, very good for a first. I would’nt stop now. Like JV said use a softer wood. Ash is hard as a rock. Thats why they make axe handles out of it.
