This shadow box was made to give to a Navy Chief with 20 years of service. It’s made from tiger maple and at this point the only finish is a couple of coats of tung oil and if you look close, it’s still dusty. The next box I build, I’m going to use the elm burl slab the shadow box is resting on. It’s almost dry enough to use. The elm log was being cut for firewood when I found it. I quartered it and cut it into 1 1/2”, 2” and 3” slabs. Some of the slabs are 24” by 72” in size.

Beautiful wood and a nice sentiment for an old Navy Chief.
