For this project I edge glued pieces of cherry, walnut, and roasted oak. I chose the circle design, it was pretty tough to get a perfect circle. To make it spin I screwed in a lazy Susan bearing right in the middle on the bottom.

I love the look of that cherry and I think you placed the walnut perfect place! Nice work.
