My brother and wife are having their first child, a girl, so I needed to make something special. This lamp with the dancing giraffes is the result. Now, before anyone gives me an “atta boy” or a slap on the back, I must say that I did not design this little marvel. It is from the John Hutchinson collection. John is having this published in an upcoming Woodcraft Magazine so he asked me to test out the build. I made very few changes except wood type, lamp shade, and I used iron on fabric for the giraffes (wanted pink spots and I don’t paint). The Giraffe necks and head move by 1/8” brass rods inserted perpendicular into necks which are actuated by the 1/8” rotating rods moving up and down on the double cam.
