Wormy walnut branches in an incense cedar frame. This is the first of 3 courtyard gates I designed for a discriminating client this month. This entry system is being delivered for installation on Monday, followed by the other similar modified designs shortly. The arches that match her existing home are an oddball shape which precluded the use of a router and trammel arm. This is all bandsaw work, and some ‘freehanding’ on the shaper (scary !) The branches and lower panel field completely float on bronze pins as my designs do not allow water to catch anywhere in an exterior gate like this. It’s a pretty big assembly at about 5’ x 8’. The head is a massive layup of cedar as this wood does not bend well. Today I delivered a similar looking little gate to another client, but didn’t feel it was worth posting.

Thanks folks for the comments. As decrepit as this gate looks, it is actually a precision build to fit into what I had to work with. I will post some other photos after installation along with the other 2 in the series.

Hi Eric , thankyou and CSlabon for the compliments ! Those are the same walnut branches meant for Johns’ vanity that didn’t pan out . Oh well – his loss !That pile of veneers is still here if you can use them. Did you get moved into your new shop ?
