My 2nd Box-joint box. made for an Etrog, look at my previous project for further information.
Made as a present for my nephew, for his 13 birthday (“Bar Mitzvah”).
Sides are Maple & Mahogany, Lid is Cherry. no hinges this time. learned my lesson, i guess…
the Pop sound when you open the box is really satisfying. the friction is strong enough that box can be held from lid without falling down. made possible with carefully adjusting the lid edges on the table saw. there is a small chamfer at the top of the box making the opening easy.
I really love the gold ‘trail’ that the mahogany shows when light reflects on it (flash or direct sun rays). i still wonder if its in every mahogany or is it this specific piece i got.
Hebrew letters carving made with laser engraver machine, the same used to make rubber stamps (I don’t own one, i go to a store).
TBIII glue, Rustin oil finish.

Thanks for watching.

I also love that ribbon in the mahogany. Looks like excellent construction and finishing. Good work. Love the contrast in the finger joint.

Hi Elyasaf!
Beautiful box. Again…
The contrasting combination of mahogany and maple is remarkable, and the finger joints are perfect.
Only critic I have, if I may: the cherry lid. It may be a personal thing, but I find it disrups the harmony. I woud suggest a lid from maple/mahogany, heavier on the maple. Perhaps just mahogany inlays or veneering.
I notice you have another box on the make – may implement on that one (if it’s not already done with).
And… who is Danyel David? ;-}
Shalom,
Yuval

thank you both for your kind words.
Critic is obviuously always welcome, im here to hear and to learn.
I accept the remark about the cherry lid – I used the scrap with the closest measures for what i need.
