This is one of the bunk beds that was built for the Chi Omega House in Fayetteville, AR. There are 3 others in this style and 4 in a bookcase style. They were completed in July 2009.
They are designed to match the 10 singles that I finished up a couple weeks ago. It has a panels headboard design with a removable adjustable shelf at the top. I made it removable, so if the student thought it might be in the way, they could take it out. I also added another shelf for the bottom section. There is not a lot of space there but I wanted something that a cell phone or books laid down, could be placed.
The foot board is maple plywood with a hardwood cap placed on top. The ladder is solid maple. All of it is finished in a clear coat only.
Here are some building pictures:

What stops the person on the top bunk from rolling off the bed in their sleep?

Did you test them to see if they could hold the weight of 4 people (2 up and 2 down) simultaneously?
I remember my college days and my friends in the Chi-O house… ;-)
