I have to admit that at 3am, given we leave the TV on at night most of the time, I got annoyed being woken up a few times by a loud booming voice that was most often Billy Mays. ... and sometimes that “Sham Wow!” guy … We really need to get a TV in the bedroom that has sound spike control. Beyond finding the remote, now buried into the blankets, likely under a cat who gets annoyed when you retrieve it … and shutting off the TV and going back to sleep, I never really paid much attention past that.
Anyway …. Then I started watching the pitchman show and started to gain an interest in their techniques and all the work that goes into developing a product for market. I caught a marathon one night and watched 3-4 of them in a row, which gained my interest to follow the series. He was an interesting guy, it’s a shame he was lost in the prime of his life. The more I read about him as a generous person and about how many people he helped, the sadder this becomes. Just the fact that one day in the middle of a show he walked over to a competitor at an event who lost his microphone, Billy gave him an extra mike. How many people would help the competition? This seems like yet another case of a good man being taken away too soon.
Are you going to send one to his family? May be a nice tribute … I’m never sure in situations like this what is appropriate, but it is something nicely done, very tasteful, artistic, and it shows that someone cares.

Very nice rendering of Billy. He was really good at what he did and so are you. I enjoy your postings. Thanks.

Eric’s story is kind of like mine…those guys used to annoy the hell out of (Sham wow kid still does)....then when I saw they were making a show about them, I thought to myself “Man, they must be getting desperate for TV shows”.
Then a few weeks ago I was not feeling good and laid up in bed…and watched a few of the “Pitch man” shows…..it was actually pretty good, and he really did seem to be a good man.

“And, if you’re NOT completely satisfied, for any reason, just return the product for a complete Refund less shipping & handling!”
... at that point, you probably know the real cost + a little profit of the product is covered by the Shipping & Handling! IMHO…

Nice tribute Greg. Thanks for sharing.
I used to go around the house yelling “Billy Mays here for (whatever I had in my hand at the time).” It would drive my wife and daughters crazy, but I got a real kick out of it.
We’ll miss Billy.

My 5 y/o grandson does an hilarious impression of Billy, I have to laugh every time I hear him. Of course we never told him he’s dead. I wondered for a while why they were still running his commrercials, then it hit me, his family is probably getting royalties from each commercil he’s featured in. Nice image of Billy, may he rest in peace.

You got that right. Sometimes they add something extra and you pay additional S&H. That’s where they really make their money. S&H is a tax deductable expense and 100% profit to them.
