Baby Clothes bench, Toy Box, & now a Gear Bench. (circa 1952)

We were at our cabin this weekend & I realized I hadn’t posted this as a project.

By the way, this was made over 57 years ago.

This is the first thing I ever made during our Marriage.

We lived in a small trailer house, & Barb became pregnant.

The trailer was so small, we needed a place for diapers, & clothing.

So I designed, & built this little bench seat.

Later, the boys used it for a toy box. They also used to empty it, & play inside of it.

All the tools I used, or had were a hand saw, Yankee drill, hammer, coping saw, & screwdriver.

I built the frame out of 1 X 2’s held together with steel corner angles.

The material to sheath the seat was from a shipping crate.

Sheathed it with tempered Masonite. It has since been reupholstered once.

The Masonite could use a coat of paint some day.

But then we couldn’t call it an antique, could we.

Looks great.

Not bad for just a hammer, saw, amd screwdriver. Reminds me of carving with a knife and scredriver,
didn’t work too well.
Nice job Dick!

Thank you Dave!

I’ll have to add a coping saw to the list.

Great idea! I love the family history this has. It looks comfortable too.

Thanks mmh!

That’s the first place a visitor usually sits, when they enter our little place.

Pretty cool Dick, necessity is the mother of invention. You remind me of my dad. He could make a closet anyplace their was a place. Nice piece of history in your life. Thanks, mike

Thanks for the nice kudos Mike.

Barb had a garage sale once, & I told her to sell it. She put such a high price on it, just so she

wouldn’t sell it. (She’s one smart little lady), so we reupholstered it, & managed to squeeze it into

our small cabin.

Thanks Matt!

I have a few more old projects to release someday.

I don’t want to crowd the show. LOL
