Woodworkers Journal August 2004 Vol 28. No 4. Hoopback Bench by Chris Marshall. I chose treated AC2 lumber to make this bench for economical reasons as well as I was not sure if i could get it to turn out like the picture. This was my first experience going by another persons plan. To this point i have looked at something and created my own plans. I found this project among the most difficult that i have done to date, even to include some of the boxes and bedroom furniture. Routering channels on curves is not as easy as it sounds. the handles on this bench are made from 4×4s and i cut them down on the band saw. a fun process, but new to me. Mortise and tennon joints doubled up with 4 inch treated screws. After the treated wood drys out we will be staining and retreating it. Any tips on staining and treating outdoor furniture would be appreciated.

Nic, nice bench. I have to redo my deck this year and I just might add a bench as well. Nice ride. Is that a Suzuki? I ride an 07 Boulevard C50T.

Honda Shadow VTX 1800, 2002. I like the look of the Boulevard also.
Have your say...
